Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meghalaya in the second week of February to campaign for the BJP for the coming Assembly election in the State.
Informing this today, State BJP president Ernest Mawrie also said that Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani and Nitin Gadkari will be among the 20 star campaigners for the party in the State for the February 27 elections.
“The date for the Prime Minister’s visit has not been fixed. But maybe February 11-12, he will address several election rallies in the State,” Mawrie said.
He also said the BJP will announce its list of 60 candidates in February after the Election Commission notifies the elections.
“We have prepared the list today and we are going to send it to Delhi. We are likely to declare the names of candidates within February 2,” Mawrie said, after the meeting of the BJP’s State election committee.
He also informed that the party will field about ten women candidates.
Expressing confidence that the party will win more seats in the upcoming polls than last time, Mawrie said the BJP will lead the next government in the State.
“Last time we had projected wins in 25 seats. This time we have projected 35 seats and we expect to win more seats so that we can lead the government,” he said.
