Shillong, Jan 24: The Office of the Block Development Officer, Tikrikilla C&RD Block, in collaboration with the Office of the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), West Garo Hills District Tura, organised a comprehensive training programme on disaster preparedness, focusing particularly on flood response and other natural calamities.
Officials elaborated on the roles and responsibilities to be carried out during emergencies triggered by natural disasters. Technical inputs were also provided by officials from the District Disaster Management Office, Tura.
Participants also received hands-on training on basic search and rescue operations and first aid response, imparted by the Civil Defence Department, to equip them with practical skills to assist victims during crisis situations.
Retired IAS Hubert Marak, James D Sangma, District Disaster Management Officer, Tura, officers of various departments, along with officials and staff from the Health Department, and personnel from Tikrikilla Police Station, among others attended the programme.
As part of the mock drill conducted later in the day, a flood scenario was enacted also demonstrating the extent of damage and testing the preparedness and response capabilities of the participating departments.
