The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Martin Luther Christian University celebrated National Sports Day with a one-day program for the students and faculties of the university.
The theme of the program was, “Embrace an active and healthy lifestyle” where a discussion was held on the topics “Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Fitness for People in a Busy World” by Mouching Zou, Nutritionist and Alumnus of the Department, and “Mountain Biking: Scope, Challenges, and Opportunities as a Professional and Recreational Sport” by Ian KuparDiengdoh and Garry Umdor, Member of the Meghalaya Cycling Association.
Zou highlighted the importance of a balanced diet for people and the effects of following diet fads on social media while Diengdoh and Umdor highlighted that mountain biking is one of the recreational sports common among the youth with huge potential and opportunities.
The program also consisted of a Mawpoiñ competition which is the indigenous Khasi sport, and other games such as sack race, spoon race, and balancing (cycle).
