The heavy rainfall spells that have pounded several areas in Meghalaya are likely to continue during the next five days.
Scores of places across southern Meghalaya have been receiving very heavy rainfall for almost a week now.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, under the influence of strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to northeastern states at lower tropospheric levels, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/ lightning is very likely over Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and isolated/scattered rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, during next five days.
The IMD bulletin warned that isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Meghalaya and Assam on April 12, while isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Meghalaya and Assam on April 11.
Meanwhile, Sohra saw a little respite from the heavy rainfall that lashed the area in the last few days.
Today Sohra received 14.4 mm rainfall. Mawsynram got heavier rains of 25.6 mm followed by Shella which recorded 22.0 mm of rainfall.
Baghmara in South Garo Hills witnessed heavy rains today at 60.4 mm. Ampati in South-West Garo Hills got 20 mm rainfall while Williamnagar in East Garo Hills got 19.44 mm rainfall.
