Over and over again readers have written off and on in various newspaper columns of this systematic and blatant abuse of read beacons and especially sirens by private individuals, bureaucrats and politicians as well.
The Supreme Court of India had come out with a directive to the Union Government to make rules in respect of its observations and also directed the state governments to come up with a set of guidelines. The awful misuse of the siren shows the sense of insecurity if not but a sense of inferiority in the eyes of the public.
The state home department seems to be sleeping in this regard as it has failed to take proactive steps lest it becomes a laughing stock and gets pulled up by the Supreme Court of India.
Such misuse shows that the common people are treated as second class citizens and a reflection of the British mentality even after independence.
