The Meghalaya police have recovered ammunition believed to belong to a militant group in the jungle of Rapdikgre village, east of Williamnagar.
The latest recovery comes in the wake of many such findings of weapons that had been hidden by suspected militants to be used later when required. Most of the recoveries belonged to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a banned outfit that has more or less lost all of its members.
On Wednesday, information was received from a “reliable” source about hidden arms and ammunition having been stored in the jungle. Senior police officers and SF-10 personnel then travelled to the area in question and conducted a search. At around 1:30am yesterday they found, wrapped in a bundle, 12 magazines and 22 rounds of ammo.
Police, however, were unable to pinpoint the group or persons who had hid these items in the remote village.
A case has been registered for further investigation.
