Shillong, Jul 31: Students of Madanumwang LP School in Ri Bhoi district can now enjoy meals again in their school, after the scheme was stopped for the past one year.
The issue of no midday meal being served at the school was raised during a recently held DC Connect programme at Mawlasnai village.
Officials said acting on the complaint it was found that after the term of the school management committee ended, internal dispute within the village erupted against constitution of a fresh committee.
“Immediately the BMC was instructed to terminate the earlier SMC from the DMC office and constitute fresh SMC. With the pro-active leadership shown by the BMC Elika Synrem, a new SMC has been constituted and the students received their first MDM yesterday after a gap of more than a year,” officials said.
The midday meal scheme is crucial for improving child nutrition, increasing school attendance, and fostering social equity. It provides free, hot cooked meals to students, addressing hunger and malnutrition while encouraging children to attend and stay in school. The scheme also promotes social interaction and reduces inequalities by having children from diverse backgrounds share a meal together.
