Mid-day meal workers has set May 21 as the deadline for the centre and state governments to take action on their demand to enhance their honorarium and clearance of their long pending dues.
The workers under the All Jaiñtia Mid-Day Meal Workers Union during a central executive committee meeting held at Ladthalaboh in Jowai today said they are still waiting for a reply on the memorandum they had sent through the Governor on April 1.
The meeting also decided to hold an indefinite hunger strike in Shillong, if the government fails to pay their pending dues.
The union has been demanding an honorarium of Rs 1000 per month, which has not been paid for five months. The honorarium was not paid for the period from November 2021 and April 2022.
Meanwhile, union leaders also met Joint Director of School Education & Literacy, LS Lyngdoh to take up the issue with the government. The workers also want the government to implement DBT transfer in payment.
