The All Jaiñtia Mid Day Meal Workers Union has reminded Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma of its demands for better remuneration and other grievances.
Expressing gratitude to the government for clearing the workers’ pending dues up to June, the union said that its members are looking forward to regular payment of their remuneration.
It also urged the government to enhance their honorarium from the state share of Rs 100 per month only, which the Meghalaya government has paid since the inception of the mid day meal scheme in 2002, to Rs 900 per month.
They further requested that they be paid the whole year, that is, for 12 months and not 10 months only; the workers are not paid for November and December, a time when schools are on holiday. Another request was for the government to direct the concerned authorities to provide cooking gas and potable water to every kitchen under the mid day meal scheme.
