Shillong, Jan 28: The district administration of South West Garo Hills, in collaboration with the Tourism Department and the Arts and Culture Department, is all set to host a two-day winter festival – ‘Mi Kari’ – at Students’ Field in Ampati, on February 13-14.
Conceived as a celebration of the region’s rich cultural heritage and community spirit, Mi Kari will bring together tradition, creativity and festive joy under one platform, a press release informed today. The festival will feature a colourful array of events including indigenous games, traditional cooking competition, photography and painting competitions, flower show, “healthy baby show” and talent show, among many others.
The evenings will come alive with music and entertainment. Audiences can look forward to captivating performances by local artistes under the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (MGMP), along with music concerts on both days featuring well-known bands and artistes from the region.
The festival also aims to provide a strong platform for livelihood promotion and local entrepreneurship. Stalls set up by various government departments and agencies will showcase products crafted by local farmers, artisans, self-help groups and entrepreneurs.
