The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the tragic deaths of brothers Ripynskhem (9) and Ardaban Papeng (2) after they reportedly came into contact with a high tension live wire outside their house at Umsalait village, West Jaiñtia Hills yesterday.
The MHRC thus directed Chief Secretary MS Rao to constitute an inquiry into and submit a detailed report to the commission within one month on the incident.
The commission also reminded the state government of its obligation under Article 21 of the Constitution to protect and safeguard the right of life of individuals within the state.
