Beneficiaries will get Rs 30,000 in extra coverage under the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), when the fifth phase takes effect from September 1, the state government said in a press release today.
The Meghalaya government signed an agreement with the National Insurance Company Ltd, a state-owned general health insurance company, to implement Phase 5 of MHIS and the central government’s PMJAY health insurance scheme. The agreement was inked on August 24 here.
Insurance cover under MHIS 5-PMJAY will increase from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 5.3 lakh, with an expanded list of benefits that will be covered under the scheme. All Meghalayans, excluding state and central government employees, are eligible to sign up for MHIS.
Ramkumar S, the MHIS CEO and Additional Secretary in the Health & Family Welfare Department, signed the agreement on behalf of the government in the presence of Health Minister James PK Sangma and other dignitaries.
