Speaker of the Assembly and Mairang MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh, inspected areas hit by landslides and floods in West Khasi Hills district under Mairang and Nongstoin constituencies yesterday.
Lyngdoh was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Tableland Lyngwa, Superintendent of Police Herbert G. Lyngdoh, Public Works Department Secretary Pius Marwein and other officials.
The Speaker visited affected sites in Sohiong on the Shillong-Nongstoin by-pass where a landslide occurred and landslide-affected areas in Mairang, Kynshi and Pyndengrei on the road to Tura.
He requested that debris be cleared as soon as possible from affected areas and directed officials to find solutions in order to prevent further calamities.
Lyngdoh also directed that an assessment be made of the quantum of damage suffered by the public, with detailed reports to be submitted to higher authorities.
PWD officials stated that debris on the road to Tura would take two to three days to be cleared.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh also visited the Sohpian-Nongstoin Road, which has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
