Assembly Speaker and Mairang MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh, will pursue the issue of upgrading Sohra civil sub-division into a district with the government.
“I will pursue and find out why it can’t be announced right now, and what the problems are, although he (the Chief Minister) did mention the geographical factor,” Lyngdoh told reporters today.
The government had announced recently that Mairang will become a district by August 15. At the same time, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had said that geography is proving a hurdle when it comes to mapping the deep valleys that divide Sohra from Pynursla.
According to the Speaker, the late Shella legislator Donkupar Roy, had taken up district status for Sohra and the government had finally agreed to the need for it.
Lyngdoh informed that the CM has already constituted a committee to look after the creation of new districts and civil sub-divisions headed by the Chief Secretary, which will also demarcate the boundaries.
