Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh today met Governor Satya Pal Malik to discuss the amended Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh informed that the Governor responded in a positive manner to the issues raised.
“He has assured us and said the amendment is useful and at the same time required for a state like us to ensure that the people of the state are taken care of. He told me that he will need little more time just to have a full analysis on the matter and see that the amendment is through,” Lyngdoh, who is also the President of the United Democratic Party, said.
When asked for his comment on the opposition Congress asking for a recall of the amended bill and to implement the original MRSSA from 2016, Lyngdoh said that the amendment was passed unanimously by the Assembly.
“I don’t know what the opposition is talking about, the bill has been passed and we have to see that it is assented to by the Governor. Everybody should work together for the people of the state,” he said.
