Meghalaya along with other north-eastern states that have been battered with heavy rainfall in the last two weeks are going to witness more heavy rains and storms in the next five days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted heavy rains for the next five days in Meghalaya, the entire North East region, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and large parts of southern peninsular India.
“Under the influence of strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to northeastern states at lower tropospheric levels, fairly widespread/widespread rainfall, accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds, are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim during next five days,” the IMD said.
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya during next five days, the IMD said, adding, “Thunder squall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) and hailstorm at isolated places is also very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, today Sohra received rainfall of 82.6 mm which was the highest in the State followed by Mawsynram which recorded rainfall of 59.4 mm. Nongstoiñ received rainfall of 52.2 mm. Tikrikilla and Williamnagar got 37 mm and 32 mm rainfall respectively.
