With non-payment of electricity dues a perennial problem faced by the state-owned power company, the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) has announced a one-time settlement for all categories of defaulting consumers, including those who have had their connections disconnected.
Those consumers who have outstanding dues as on March 31, 2020 can avail of a waiver of 100 percent of delayed payment charges or 30 percent of the total outstanding dues, whichever is more beneficial to consumers.
“This scheme is valid only for a limited period that is from November 1, 2020 to January 31, 2021. The consumers are requested to make most of the scheme and clear their liabilities to MePDCL,” a government press release stated today.
Consumers looking to take advantage of this amnesty can contact their respective Assistant Executive Engineer of the distribution sub-division, the Nodal Officer at the MeECL Headquarters in Lumjingshai, Shillong, or visit www.meecl.nic.in.
