The office of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) Mawkyrwat Division today assured the Mawkyrwat Electricity Consumers’ Forum (MECF) to streamline matters related to alleged inflated electricity bills in the region.
Wallambok Syiemïong, chairman of the MECF, said that the MePDCL Mawkyrwat has agreed to also inquire the matter but also stated that the office of the MePDCL will be able to streamline the problem only for June but from July onwards they will not be able to look into the matter since the billing system is handled by UGO (Utility On the Go) billing software.
Meanwhile GI Passah, executive engineer of the MePDCL’s South Khasi Hills Distribution Division, said that they are yet to fully understand how the UGO billing system functions.
However, she maintained that this system is not only operationalised in Mawkyrwat but the entire state and it’s an advanced technology that will be more accurate and transparent.
