Meghalaya moved into the semifinals of the men’s football event at the Khelo India Youth Games with a 2-1 victory over Karnataka in Indore today.
The team had to come from behind after conceding an early goal but won thanks to strikes of their own from Cannyson Kharnaior (40′) and Blanangshngain Khongsdam (68′).
Karnataka’s goal was scored through Abhishek SP in only the fourth minute.
With this win, Meghalaya topped Group B with a total of 7 points. They won their opener on February 2 against Odisha before drawing with West Bengal two days ago.
Meghalaya will take on Kerala in the second semifinal on Wednesday at 2:30pm. It was against the same opponents that their campaign in the Khelo India Youth Games came to an end last year after Meghalaya were pipped on penalties in the last-four stage. The other semifinal will be between Punjab and Karnataka.
Speaking after today’s match, coach Jeffrey Warlarpih said “The competition is really tough. I wish my boys will do well in the upcoming matches.”
