After impressing scouts in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament, Meghalaya leg spinner Himan Phukan has been selected by Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians for trials.
Phukan played in two matches and bowled seven overs and took one wicket while conceding less than six and over.
The 23-year-old will depart on Saturday for Mumbai.
The Meghalaya Cricket Association, through its Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor, expressed elation at the news as Phukan is the first player from the state to be called up by an IPL team for trials.
“We hope and pray that he gets into the IPL. It will be a great boost to the boys of the state,” the MCA said today.
