Nongpoh, Aug 1: The first-ever ‘Purple Fair’ in Meghalaya was held today at St Paul Parish Hall, Nongpoh.
Organised by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE) Shillong in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner and District Social Welfare Office, the event aims at promoting inclusion, awareness and empowerment of persons with disabilities (PwDs) through multi-sectoral services, interactive sessions, community engagement showcasing the skills, ability and creativity of the Divyangjans.
Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal lauded the efforts of CRCSRE Shillong in organising a platform that brings together stakeholders from across the district to address the concerns and potential of persons with disabilities, a release said.
Renowned arm-wrestling champion Prisca Pyngrope, the event ambassador, emphasised ability beyond disability and applauded the platform for showcasing the talents of Divyangjans. Pyngrope, who has won medals for Meghalaya, uses a wheelchair.
Over 500 participants, including 247 PwDs, caregivers and professionals, attended the fair which featured 20 exhibition stalls, vocational skill displays and inclusive performances.
