The State government has vested powers of ‘Special Executive Magistrate’ upon the Inspectors General of Police, Deputy Inspectors General of Police and Superintendents of Police of Meghalaya Police.
These police officers will now have the powers impose prohibitory orders to prevent potential disturbances.
Besides this, the police officers can also take up preventive arrests to maintain public peace and order, dispersal of assembly by use of civil force, take conditional order for removal of nuisance, seek bonds from individuals for good behaviour, action against persons suspected of planning to commit cognizable offences and demand security bonds from habitual offenders.
