The state government will continue to provide Covid-19 vaccines free of charge to eligible people at public healthcare centres.
Currently, people only have to pay to get the jab if opting for private care.
The government also announced today that it has ordered 42,000 doses of the vaccine and paid for them and these will be meant for the 18-44 age group. The doses are expected to arrive in the state within the next few days, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed media persons after a review meeting.
The government is shelling out Rs 300 per vaccine. The drive to immunise the 18-44s was meant to start on May 1 but was plagued by shortages in supply of the vaccines nationwide.
The review meeting also took stock of the availability of essential commodities in Meghalaya. Tynsong informed that supplies of essential items are sufficient.
He also informed that the central government will provide free rice to certain categories of beneficiaries this month.
The beneficiaries will get 5 kilogrammes of rice per member in an eligible household.
