Shillong, Jan 21: The Delhi unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) recently received a distress call from a girl from Meghalaya who said that her sister, who works in Delhi, had been assaulted by some men at her residence.
After receiving this information, the KSU informed SPUNER (a special police unit for North East residents in the national capital) and together with the Malviya Nagar Police rushed to the scene and rescued her.
According to the accused, however, he said the girl took money from him and he went to her residence as she refused to return the money.
However, the girl told the police that it was because she refused to enter into prostitution that she was attacked by the men.
As of now, the accused and the victim are both in police custody.
The KSU is working with relevant authorities to ensure that the girl is sent home after all legal requirements have been met.
The KSU has urged the public, especially those seeking employment, to verify all information and references before going to work outside the state.
