In order to counter, fake news and propaganda the Congress in Meghalaya on Friday launched the ‘Join Congress Social Media’ campaign.
This campaign aims to have online “warriors” who would counter fake news and propaganda.
Fernandez S. Dkhar, general secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee said that at present there is too much of fake news even in national television which is being propagated.
“We have to stop this and I urge the citizens of the country to save democracy,” Dkhar said.
The MPYC general secretary on Friday urged the youth to come forward and join the ‘Congress Social Media’ platforms as ‘warriors’.
“I call upon the youths to be responsible towards society and save democracy,” Dkhar said.
He also said that there are paid twitter handles to forward fake news.
He said that even as some are propagating fake news, the unemployment rate in the country rose sharply to 9.1 per cent in December 2020, as per a report from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), which is about 38.7 million.
Dkhar said that the present NDA government in the centre led by the BJP has been suppressing the minorities by bringing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and now it is suppressing the farmers.
