As a part of the protest programme as announced by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against the three farm bills passed by the Centre recently in both Houses of the Parliament, the Meghalaya Congress organised a meeting at Congress Bhavan here today to highlight on the adverse impact of the bills.
The meeting was led by MPCC working president James S. Lyngdoh and MPCC secretary Bajop Pyngrope and was attended by party MLAs, MDCs and several party leaders.
Party MLA George B Lyngdoh in his address, spoke of the measures that the farm bills would unleash on the farmers. These included, end of Minimum Support Price, allowing of unregulated market, entry of rich private business houses and tremendous impact on employment in the agricultural sector.
After the meeting, a memorandum addressed to the President of India was handed over to the Raj Bhawan, Shillong for onward communication to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
