Political parties making up the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) 2.0 government, like the principal partner National People’s Party (NPP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) are gearing up a Cabinet reshuffle in the coming months.
Sources informed that the possible reshuffling of the MDA can happen as early as September after the Autumn Session of the Meghalaya Assembly.
Parties like the BJP and the HSPDP with two MLAs each could see the Cabinet berth being shared with the other.
Currently, for the BJP, Alexander Laloo Hek is the Cabinet Minister. He could be replaced by South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai.
Similar arrangement was made in the previous MDA 1.0 government where Hek was the Minister for the first half of the term and Shullai for the remaining term.
For the HSPDP, Shakliar Warjri, who holds the Sports and Youth Affairs portfolio may be replaced by his party colleague Methodius Dkhar.
Meanwhile, the main partner in the MDA alliance the NPP is also toying with the idea of replacing two of its current ministers and giving opportunity to a couple others.
Sources informed that one will be from Jaintia Hills region and the other from Garo Hills.
