Shillong, Nov 11: The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides (MBSG) celebrated the 75th Foundation Day and Rajya Puraskar Rally at the lawns of the Raj Bhavan today with Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar as the chief guest.
At the celebration, the prestigious Governor’s Scouts and Guides Award was given to 305 recipients (80 Scouts and 225 Guides) from various schools for their dedication and perseverance.
Two Guides, Markynti Wahlang and Purnima Thapa also received the President’s Award Certificate.
In his address, the Governor stressed the need for creating greater awareness about forest conservation, climate sensitivity and sustainable practices in Meghalaya. He called upon Scouts and Guides to plant at least one tree each and lead the movement and guide youths for protecting forests, preserving biodiversity, reducing plastic usage and promoting responsible environmental behaviour at community levels.
Highlighting the growing challenges faced by youth in the present times, the Governor emphasised the crucial role played by the Scouts and Guides in shaping young minds with positive motivation, life skills, national values and social responsibility. He urged that this example of using service and collective action for national betterment should be continued today, especially in building unity and fostering community harmony.
The programme commemorated the remarkable journey of the Movement since 1950, when the Hindustan Scouts, the Boy Scout Association of India and the Girl Guides Association came together to form the unified Bharat Scouts and Guides.
