Shillong, Aug 5: The Meghalaya government has initiated the land acquisition process for the construction of the Rs 22,864-crore high-speed corridor from Mawlyngkhung in Meghalaya to Panchgram in Assam.
The greenfield four-lane highway will be built by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
In East Jaintia Hills, 34 villages where land acquisition will be required are Tuber Shohshrieh, Tuber Kmai Shnong, Wapung Shnong, Wapung Skur, Lad Rymbai Datsimpein, Mookhep, Lad Rymbai B, Dkhiah West, Dkhiah East, Khliehriat East, Rymbai, Umsatai, Pynurkba, Bataw, Lakadong Umlatdoh, Lakadong Ummat, Lama, Borghat, Natbor, Dein Satlang, Kwator, Demlakang, Ladwahwapung, Hingaria, Huroi, Lahalein, Lejri, Borsara, Kuliang, Umkiang, Lum Phyllut, Dona Skur, Dona Umbluh, Ratacherra.
Seventeen villages have been identified for land acquisition in Ri Bhoi district. Among them are Pyllun, Umeit, Umroi Labansaro, Nongrah, Nonglakhia, Wahmyntait, Sumer Umbang, Umdohbyrthih, Syllei U Lar, Umktieh, Umsarang, Lumsohpetbneng, Umroi Madan, Umsawriang, Lumdaitkhla, and Lumsohphoh.
The deputy commissioners of the two districts said that any new construction or development activity within the designated areas of the proposed four-lane greenfield alignment high-speed corridor must obtain prior permission from the office.
“It is hereby clearly stated that any unauthorised structures whether temporary or permanent erected within the proposed alignment after the issuance of the notice will not be considered eligible for any compensation at the time of land acquisition or project implementation,” the DCs said.
The high-speed corridor will span 166.80 km, with 144.80 km passing through Meghalaya and 22 km in Assam.
This critical infrastructure project will improve inter-city connectivity between Guwahati, Shillong and Silchar, traversing through Ri Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya and Cachar district in Assam and reduce congestion on existing NH-06 and enhance transport infrastructure development in line with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
