Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that he has been in touch with his Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswa Sarma and both the state will soon commence the second phase of dialogue to resolve the remaining six areas of difference along the inter-state boundary.
“We have not been able to find the time so many issues are there and I think Assam also has some elections coming up. Once all these are over, I hope that very soon we’ll be able to initiate the discussion in the second phase,” Sangma told reporters.
On a recent incident where Assam Police personnel had resorted to lathi-charge on residents of Mallangkona Salbari village of West Khasi Hills when they protested the arrest of two villagers, Sangma said he had discussed the matter with the Assam CM.
“He has assured me that necessary instructions will be given to the SP and the police of the district to ensure that these kinds of situations do not happen again. We need to make sure that whatever the situation may be we need to handle with care and we need to show restraint,” Sangma said.
He also said that his counterpart was also concerned about the issue and has assured that he will get the necessary action done. “The police will be asked to show restraint especially keeping in mind that discussion on the border issue is still on. The chief minister reaffirmed that the police will be asked to maintain restraint especially keeping in mind that discussions on border issue are going,” he added.
