Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today said that a mega project is being planned, with financial assistance from the World Bank, to upscale the health sector in the State.
Sangma, who laid the foundation for the upgradation of Mawryngkneng PHC to a Community Health Centre at Mawrynkneng spoke at length about the government’s vision to provide better health care to its citizens.
“This year is going to be very important for us because we are about to implement a very big project which is funded by the World Bank, where new buildings will be put up in different PHCs and CHCs, renovation works will be taken up at a large scale, apart from Implementation of Telemedicine and Information Technology to ensure that better health services are provided to the people”, the Chief Minister said.
He said that improvement of health care facilities in the State is always at the forefront of the present Government’s developmental agenda and the upgradation of the Mawryngkneng PHC is to ensure that better health care systems are made accessible to the people.
Ruing at the lack of quality health services in the rural areas the Chief Minister said that a lot of investment is required for upgradation of infrastructure, equipment and manpower, to ensure that health services are brought up to the mark.
“The MDA government is working very hard to upgrade the overall health facilities in many rural parts of the State. Not just here in Mawryngkneng, but in many other parts of the state where upgradations need to be done from Sub Centres to PHCs, from PHCs to CHCs, new buildings and proper manpower is required,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said that the inclusion of a trauma centre and a blood bank in the Mawryngkneng CHC, as suggested by Health Minister, A.L. Hek, could also be looked into in the future.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and local MDC and Chairman, KHADC, Pyniaid S Syiem are among the dignitaries present at the foundation laying ceremony.
