Raj Bhavan Shillong today witnessed a spectacular display of the rich cultural heritage of India as Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry all celebrated their respective Foundation Days at a programme held at the Durbar Hall.
To mark the occasion, a cultural evening was organised wherein Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan was the chief guest.
The cultural evening witnessed enthusiastic performances showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the aforementioned states and Union territories.
Earlier, in his welcome address, BDR Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, spoke at length about the uniqueness of each state and territory and also pointed out the immense contributions made by them in the growth and progress of the nation.
In line with the central government’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme, the Foundation Days of different states and territories are celebrated at Raj Bhavans across the country in an effort to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between people.
Today’s programme was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture.
