As a mark of solidarity with public sector electricity employees in the country, the Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Associations and Unions (CCORMAU) will go on a one-day strike on August 10.
The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) is holding the protest to oppose the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2021, which is to be considered by Parliament during the monsoon session.
The bill would usher in greater privatisation of the power sector in the country.
Non-factory workers of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) will join in the nationwide strike. However, CCORMAU assured that essential services will be maintained and power supply will not be hampered “to the extent possible”.
