The A.chik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF), on Saturday alleged that engineers and officers of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) are indulging in nepotism.
Chingsrang D. Sangma, Director, AIJIF, central cell, Mendipathar, said, “It is very saddening to know that officers/Engineers of the MeECL are using their office for personal benefits and giving work orders to their family members.”
Sangma alleged that Pradip Kumar Shullet, Executive Engineer has been misusing his position to give work orders to his wife, sister and brother.
“It is revealed that Mr. Pradip Kumar Shullet had fraudulently split large quotations into around 106 small quotations below Rs. 50,000 to avoid floating of tenders in the public domain so that they could directly award them to his wife’s firm,” the AIJIF alleged.
The forum alleged that Shullet was accused of corruption during his tenure and a complaint was filed against him in 2018, following which he had allegedly erased all emails and deactivated the email account of the inspectorate to avoid scrutiny.
“This sort of action is one of the main reasons why the MeECL has been bleeding and performing so poorly all these years resulting in crores of rupees of loss not just to the Corporation but also to the State and its people,” the AIJIF stated.
The forum has urged the government to go for “immediate high-level inquiry through CBI” on the alleged corrupt practices in the MeECL.
