The alleged partiality in the release of media advertisements regarding the North East Olympic Games (NEOG) 2022 being held in Shillong has caused an uproar with the Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association (MEPA) calling for a boycott of all news and press releases related to the Games.
Taking strong exception to the alleged partiality and bias adopted by the organisers of the NEOG 2022 in the release of advertisements, the MEPA stated that only few newspapers including those from outside the State are getting preference.
“It has been noticed that only certain newspapers including those from outside the State are preferred for insertion of advertisements related to the NEOG 2022. This goes against the established policy of giving first preference to the local newspapers, news portals and news channels,” MEPA general secretary John W. Thabah said in a statement issued today.
“The MEPA as a body that looks after the welfare and development of local media houses in the State has decided to register its strong protest against this blatant discrimination,” Thabah said while urging all local media houses including print, electronic and online news portals not to carry any news, press releases, photographs, etc related to North East Games 2022 from today onwards.
