MDC of Mawhati, Charles Marngar today appealed Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to remove the CRPF camp at Umlaper village under the disputed Block II along the Meghalaya-Assam border.
Assam had set up the CRPF camp since August 9 the MDC stated. He said he met the DSP of Mawlasnai outpost and was informed that the SPs of Ri-Bhoi district and Hamren had discussed the matter.
“I was told that the SP of Harem Karbi Anglong said that the main reason for setting up of the CRPF camp was to maintained peace before the Independence Day and that the camp would be immediately removed. However this never happened to date,” Marngar said.
He suggested that if the Assam government continues to keep the CRPF camp in the area then Meghalaya should also set up a similar camp at Ummat village.
Stating that the assistance sought by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma from the Centre, to deploy three companies of CRPF and two companies of BSF, the MDC said, a section of these could be deployed to Ummat village under Raid Nongtung to strengthen the forces in the border area to ensure that citizens of Meghalaya do not live under fear.
He also said for peace safety and welfare of the people there the MDA government should deploy additional manpower from the state government at the earliest.
Marngar said that the Chief Minister assured to immediately intervene on the matter and see that the CRPF camp is removed.
