Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) MDC Rinaldo K. Sangma has alleged that Assembly Deputy Speaker Timothy D. Shira who is also the MLA of Resubelpara neglected the people of his constituency.
Referring to visuals which have gone viral in social media where school children had to walk through the slushy and dilapidated roads in Resubelpara town, Sangma alleged that this is nothing but a depiction of the local MLA’s lack of concern for his constituents and most importantly the State government’s failure to provide better road infrastructure and communication for the people of Resubelpara, the district headquarters of North Garo Hills.
“It is saddening to know that the chief minister and his convoy of ministers passed by these very roads during the last elections and made assurances to sanction new road construction. Ironically, not a single repair work has been undertaken for years since 2018,” Sangma said.
“The roads in main Resubelpara itself are filled with big potholes and over these past years no proper repair has been done but some crony contractors of the MLA have been filling these holes and cracks with red soil and withdrawing AR and SR schemes meant for small repair works every financial year,” he added.
The MDC requested Shira to personally come and inspect the roads immediately and make prompt arrangements with the State government to address the problems faced by thousands of rural school going children, office goers and common people of Resubelpara.
