Opposition Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh has slammed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government for not being proactive enough in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lyngdoh also referred to the recent case of a 52-year-old Covid-positive woman who had to be ferried from Nongpoh to Shillong and then had to bear hours of delay in receiving treatment before succumbing to the disease a little while later.
“This present government is reactive, not proactive. The government has to be proactive and plan to handle the situation and not just react to a situation. If Shillong Civil Hospital remains asleep at night in this kind of situation then what will happen if cases further increase?” she said.
“In the first place, why isn’t Nongpoh Civil Hospital equipped to treat and admit a Covid patient? Why were we told by the government that the facilities are in place in all civil sub-divisions and district headquarters to handle and treat Covid-19 cases?” she asked.
Lyngdoh also said that being on the arterial road that connects Shillong to the outside world, it would be expected that Nongpoh could have many more Covid cases.
“The inability of the local government hospital there to handle the spread of coronavirus is unacceptable,” she added.
