Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Mukul Sangma today stated that the NPP-led MDA government in the State was implanted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018 and this could be gauged when it supported the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
“When all the North-eastern states unitedly opposed the CAA, all parties which are part of the MDA government supported the draconian CAA instead,” Sangma said, adding, “We also witnessed how the NPP MP spoke in favour of the NRC at the Parliament. Meghalaya won’t forget or forgive this.”
The TMC leader who visited Umlaper in Ri Bhoi district today for the party’s membership drive banked on how the NPP was in league with the saffron party at the centre even on the border issue.
“With regards to the areas of differences between Meghalaya and Assam, we had submitted a document in 2011 to claim back our rightful land. However, after the visit of the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the puppet MDA government simply obeyed their diktats like an obedient servant. This entire false narrative in Meghalaya is scripted by the BJP,” he stated.
Sangma also criticised what he said was deplorable mis-governance by the MDA government. He said, “You have seen the agony that our SSA teachers had to go through. Many other workers like the ASHA workers and daily wage earners, are facing similar problems. Who is responsible?”
He said the government has not created any new jobs in the last five years. “Even the posts of primary school teachers are not filled in spite of MTET taking place. It is our children who are being deprived of a prosperous future.”
Stating that the TMC will be accepted widely by the people Sangma was confident that the party is stronger that the rest and said, “There are only two political power centres in Meghalaya. It is AITC on one hand and all the other parties on the other hand.”
The former chief minister assured that TMC is determined to make a positive change in the state with regard to education, employment and statehood.
