Shillong Lok Sabha MP, Vincent H Pala today stated the MDA government in the State is not keen to solve public grievances but to address personal interests of business communities.
“There are numerous illegal coke factories that are choking people and they are dying because of the harmful carbon dioxide emitted from these factories. But the government has not responded responsibly to all the issue including several other issues,” Pala told Highland Post.
Pala accused the MDA coalition partners of complacency and said, “They are there to please themselves and their groups.”
Stating that people choked by coke factories have on many occasions met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the minister in charge of industries but to no avail, Pala said there is anger among the public because there are over 30 illegal coke factories that are functioning without permission.
“It is surprising that even after an FIR against these illegal coke factories, no action is taken against them. The fact is that the government is protecting the business communities and safeguarding their personal interest and nothing is being done to protect the public.”
