Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that the MDA government made many things possible what had previously seemed impossible.
He said the NPP-led government brought transformations in various departments and that awards and achievements bears testimony to the changes that have happened in the last four and half years.
“People now believe that yes, there is a government. There is a government that wants to do things. There is a government that can do things. There is a government that has done things,” he said at a programme in Lawsohtun today.
Sangma stated that resolving the inter-state border was an “impossible” task and since people have reposed faith on the MDA, it is being addressed and being resolved and his government “can do it.”
The chief minister listed awards and recognition received by the State in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), tourism, insurance, health, startup environment and information technology.
He said that there was a time when Meghalaya used to be at the bottom when it came to vaccination of children. “Now Meghalaya is in top three in terms of vaccination,” he added.
Heaping praise on his cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling, he said, “Because of his hard work in monitoring the MGNREGS, Meghalaya has become the top three performers.”
Stating that there were only 4600 households in rural areas with water supply Sangma said, under his governance Meghalaya was adjudged the best performing state of the JJM project. He said under the MDA, they were able to convince the centre to extend the JJM project to census towns and areas.
He informed that the high level meeting of the JJM under the chairmanship of the chief secretary has already sat once and included Lawsohtun area to augment water supply at a cost of Rs 10.67 crores. The foundation stone will be laid within next month, he added.
The chief minister mentioned how the Crowborough hotel, which has been unfinished for the past 36 years under multiple governments, was finally inaugurated as Vedanta Meghalaya hotel, the first five-star hotel. He said this was “impossible, but we did it.”
He said though Meghalaya has seen change in governance and moving forward a lot more needs to be done.
“The NPP-led MDA has proved time and again that in difficult situations we have always believed that if we try and give our hearts, pray and focus there is no goal that we cannot achieve,” he added.
