Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PWD, Prestone Tynsong today claimed that the MDA government has spent not less than Rs 10,000 crore for the construction of roads in the State since 2018.
“From 2018 till today, I think the investment we made for road connectivity is not less than Rs 10,000 crore. Can you imagine?” Tynsong told media persons.
On public complaints regarding the poor quality of roads being constructed across the State, he said that he always directed the engineers to ensure that quality is maintained in construction of roads.
“I have instructed all engineers till the junior engineer level that you cannot compromise the quality,” Tynsong said.
Asked about the dilapidated condition of roads in the rural areas, the deputy chief minister said that everything cannot be done in a day due to the huge backlog in terms of roads in the State.
Meanwhile, Tynsong today held a review meeting to discuss the status of the completion of road projects in the State under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).
According to him, the Central government had set a deadline for all states to complete PMGSY-1 and PMGSY-2 by the end of March this year.
He said that road constructions under the two levels of PMGSY are almost at a completion stage and that he hoped to reach the 100 per cent completion stage by the targeted timeline.
Regarding implementation of PMGSY-3, Tynsong said that works are in progress and some contractors have already completed the works.
“I don’t have many details of the road lengths under PMGSY-1 and 2 since it was covered by the census and that census started from 2003. The mission was to connect villages that were not connected by road. As for PMGSY-3 it is for upgradation and re-carpeting of the existing State roads and the target for this is 1250 km,” he said.
