There has been a reshuffle at the top of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, with Rayonald Kharkamni taking over as Honorary Secretary.
Sengnab Momin, previously a Member (Councillor), has taken over Kharkamni’s previous role as Vice-President, while Gideon Kharkongor stepped down as Honorary Secretary and is now Member (Councillor) in place of Momin.
All three were elected unopposed to their new positions, which they will hold for the remainder of the 2022-25 term.
The reshuffle was necessitated after Kharkongor expressed his desire to step down from the post of Honorary Secretary after more than six years in the role due to “the increasing workload of his professional career,” MCA President Nababrata Bhattacharjee said in a press release today.
Due process was followed in the by-elections, with the applications scrutinised and declared valid. The process was overseen by W Khyllep, former Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya, who officially declared the results. Certificates of election were also handed over to the winning candidates by Khyllep.
After Kharkongor’s initial request, the general body of the MCA had authorised the Apex Council to decide on the issue and, after recommendation of candidates, the SGM held on February 1 ratified the decisions taken therein and the by-elections were notified by the Electoral Officer for the three vacant posts, as provided in the relevant clause of Memorandum of Association & Rules and Regulations of the MCA, Bhattacharjee informed.
