Shillong, Apr 9: Mawsynram MLA Ollan Sing Suiñ recently inspected the ongoing construction of the Khasimara Bridge at Ryngku.
With a construction budget of ₹124 crore, this bridge is anticipated to span over 100 meters and will serve as a vital connection between Ryngku, Dangar, and adjacent villages along the border.
Suiñ pointed out that this bridge, described as a composite structure, represents a long-standing demand from the community. Set to be completed by March 2027, it will not only facilitate safer movement but also decrease travel time to Shillong by eliminating the lengthy detour via Balat, which adds nearly 30 km to the journey.
He said the bridge is expected to bring considerable improvements to the daily lives of those living near the international border, especially during the monsoon when high water levels pose a risk to crossing.
Stating that previously villagers had to rely on boats to cross the river to access the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Suiñ said that the bridge would significantly reduce these difficulties, making it easier for locals to reach medical facilities in a timely manner.
