NPP MLA from Mawshynrut, Gigur Myrthong has come under fire for the alleged misuse of the FOCUS scheme in his constituency.
RTI findings by HYC Mawshynrut Circle president Losbingnel Lyngkhoi showed that there were teachers and contractors who got the scheme meant only for farmers.
Lyngkhoi said these persons availed the scheme “only because they are connected to the MLA.”
“There were instances where two persons from the same families also got the FOCUS scheme,” Lyngkhoi said today.
The HYC leader said that till date, 111 villages have received financial assistance under the scheme.
Quoting the RTI findings, Lyngkhoi said that funds amounting to Rs 1,45,40,000 have been distributed to beneficiaries under the scheme.
He also said that under the FOCUS, each farmer should receive Rs 5000 and producer groups should be formed in order to be eligible for the scheme.
“We will follow up this matter so that FOCUS is not converted into a scheme for the political benefit of any politician,” Lyngkhoi said.
