Mawphlang MDC Lamphrang Blah could enter the fray as the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the Mawphlang Assembly by-election.
Blah, who is the leader of the opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), informed that he will hold consultation with his supporters tomorrow to decide on whether he will contest the by-poll, which has been necessitated by the death, earlier this month, of the incumbent MLA, Syntar Klas Sunn.
Another MDC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, who is the KHADC Chairman, will contest the Mawryngkneng by-election for the NPP.
KHADC Chief Executive Member, Titosstarwell Chyne, has extended his best wishes to both Syiem and Blah.
Yesterday, the Election Commission of India had notified the holding of by-polls to three vacant Assembly seats of Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala after sitting legislators David Nongrum, Sunn and Dr Azad Zaman, respectively, died.
Polling will be held on October 30 and the counting of votes will be on November 2.
