Among the villages that will soon benefit from the road improvements are Umkra, Mawatari Thaiang, Syntumaw and Pdeng Nongrim. The project will focus on blacktopping the road from Umkra village, which will connect to the PMGSY road in Mawtari Thaiang and Syntumaw, extending further to the Umsawnongbri road leading to Nongpoh. This key route, spanning approximately 3.62km, will significantly ease travel for residents.
During an inspection last Saturday, Mawhati MLA and MDC Charles Marngar confirmed the state government’s commitment to the project. The inspection, attended by officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractor overseeing the construction, affirmed that work will commence in November.
Speaking to the media, Marngar noted that in addition to the Umkra road, several other vital road projects are scheduled to begin in the coming months. “These include the 16km-long Mawrong road from Rtiang to Umkei village, the 20km road from Mawlasnai to Kdohhati village, the 8km Pamlatar road and a 16km stretch from Umlaper to Lymphuid. All these projects have been sanctioned under the PMGSY schemes,” he stated.
