A truck driver and his two helpers was waylaid, assaulted and briefly kidnapped by masked men before the buffaloes they were transporting were robbed.
The incident took place in Mylliem on May 3 at around 2 am.
The driver identified as Pynwanborland Kharbani and two of his helpers, Md. Dorbesh All and Md. Mnower Hussain, were heading towards Laitlyngkot from Shillong transporting 14 buffaloes.
According to a FIR filed at Mawngap Police Station, the three victims were waylaid ahead of Soilyna restaurant by a small car and four to five masked men armed with knives assaulted, threatened and forced them to oblige before they were blind-folded with blankets and laid on the floor of the truck.
The masked men then drove the vehicle with the three victims, who were unable to figure out where they were being taken. It was only in the morning that the masked men left the vehicle and fled.
When the driver and helpers unfolded they found themselves in an isolated place before reaching Sohryngkham village along Shillong-Jowai road and the buffaloes with the transit challan, Rs 35,000 and two mobile phones were stolen.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said police are on the job to nab the persons involved.
