Shillong, Nov 21: Cabinet minister and local MLA Marcuise N Marak today inaugurated a new meat and fish market in Williamnagar, along with the extended office of the Williamnagar Municipal Board (WMB).
At the programme, Marak stated that development over the past few years is evident, particularly in terms of infrastructure. He also acknowledged the efforts of WMB CEO Ripamchi N Sangma and Chairman Benedick K Sangma, saying the new market facility will allow vendors to work in a more hygienic and organised environment.
The minister announced that the government is preparing to set up a dedicated vegetable market in Williamnagar to help local farmers. He also shared that land has been identified for a slaughterhouse that will be built soon.
Marak urged meat and fish vendors to cooperate with authorities on proper waste disposal to keep the town clean.
Deputy Commissioner RP Marak reminded vendors that the High Court has banned selling meat and fish on the roadside and stressed the need to use designated market areas. He noted that Williamnagar is expected to see rapid changes as the town moves forward with its master plan.
