Shillong, Nov 13: The body of a man from Assam was found in a forested area of Nohwet village in the Pynursla civil sub-division on Thursday morning.
The man was found with a rope around his neck tied to a tree but family members have reportedly denied the possibility of suicide and Assam media have alleged that the deceased, Tapan Dey (49) was murdered.
The body was found by a group of women today morning as they were out collecting firewood.
Dey’s family had filed a missing person’s report after failing to contact him after November 9.
Dey was driving a vehicle for a tower construction company in the Dawki area. He was in Meghalaya to deliver a generator to a mobile tower construction team.
His body was claimed by his family members on Thursday.
The deceased person’s son has denied that suicide was a possibility, instead suggesting that he had been murdered. Media reports from Assam claimed that the vehicle Dey was driving had been hijacked and that the perpetrators later murdered him. However, his possessions were later found in the vehicle, a Mahendra pickup truck.
